This story is continuing to be written and it has been a challenge to record it as it is happening. I have a blog that captures the early history of how God began to work on us and lead us to this amazing ministry. The blog also records several of the food deliveries and days spent at the Day Center. Feel free to browse the blog and let me know what you think. To get there, click here.
Here is the Reader’s Digest version -
God was giving the youth ministry the idea that it was to experience God in a new way by being involve in a task so large that only God could accomplish it, we could not do it on our own. He ended up showing us exactly what to do while we were at our summer camp trip in 2007, but we did not see it yet.
We looked in several different areas to find where God was already at work.
Eventually, he helped us to cross paths with Anne Dunn and we began taking food into the woods along Rt. 1 in February of 2008.
This effort really began to build trust between the homeless (we call them friends) and the volunteers. Eventually 20+ churches were involved in taking food into the woods three days a week. Generation Hope is the only youth group and we deliver 2 days per month. God really moved on our delivery days (and He continues to do so!)
In July of 2008, a Day Center was opened to provide hot food, showers, laundry, social services, clothes and a safe place to hang out. The adults of our church serve at this Center twice a month and it has been so amazing to watch God work on the hearts of the volunteers as well as the friends.
The story continues and God uses so many people to meet the needs of this ministry. If you want to get involved, check out the rest of this web site. You will be blessed as you bless others.
